Elisa Lobatos, from Abraham Lincoln High School, won Best in Show, and Mariely Marquez-Lopez, from Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy, took home second-place honors at the annual Congressional Art Competition for constituents in the 1st Congressional District.

Lobatos’s artwork “Dog on Film” will be hung in the halls of the U.S. Capitol, and Lobatos will have the chance to fly to Washington, D.C., for the awards ceremony. Additionally, she and her school each will receive $200 from Meininger’s Art Materials in Denver.

Marquez-Lopez’s work “Hands” earned her and her school $150 apiece from Maininger’s.

All of the artwork submitted by the students was displayed at the Denver Art Society and reviewed by professional judges and Congresswoman Diana DeGette.
