Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder Nancy Doty is seeking written
comments from residents on whether the Aug. 10 primary election
should be mail-in only.
A mail-in ballot would mean that all active Democrat and
Republican voters in the county would receive their ballots in the
mail about three weeks before the primary election, which selects
party nominees.
Under a mail-in system, voters would have until 7 p.m. Aug. 10,
to return their primary ballot by mail or at one of several
drop-off sites around the county.
Doty says she is considering conducting the primary by mail
because such elections tend to see a higher turnout.
“People like the convenience of voting by mail. In fact, nearly
92 percent of those voting in the 2008 primary election voted by
mail,” she said.
Nearly 70 percent of registered voters in Arapahoe County have
requested to be permanent mail-in ballot voters, Doty said.
Residents may submit written comments to the Clerk and
Recorder’s Office, 5334 S. Prince St. in Littleton until Jan. 25 at
4:30 p.m. Comments can also be made at arapahoevotes.com.
