It’s a two-for-one Englewood basketball deal Jan. 9 with
double-header varsity games against Alameda.
The girls varsity game tips off at 6:30 p.m. and the boys game
is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. This is the only varsity
double-header on the schedule this season.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students with school
identification. One ticket is good for admission to both varsity
games.
Anytime Englewood and Alameda compete, it is 100-percent
guaranteed that the blue-and-white-clad Pirates will win. That is
because blue and white are Alameda and Englewood school colors and
a pirate is the mascot for both of the teams.
Coming into the new year, team records also are similar.
On the boys’ side, Englewood is 0-2 in league play and 2-8
overall while Alameda is 1-1 in league and 4-2 overall.
Englewood girls are also 0-2 in league and they have a 1-8
overall record while the Alameda girls team is 1-1 in league and
4-3 overall.
The Englewood athletes returned to practice Jan. 2. The only
change that came with the new year is Englewood canceled the
remainder of the junior varsity season. That action was taken
because several players are no longer on the roster.
The Jan. 9 game will be the second 2009 contest for both teams.
The girls team was at home Jan. 7 against Jefferson while the boys
were on the road to face Jefferson’s Saints.
Next week, the boys have back-to-back home games. Jan. 14
Elizabeth comes to town and Jan. 16 the Pirates face Golden. Tipoff
for both games is 7 p.m.
The girls have a busy schedule in the coming week with three
road games — Jan. 10 at Denver West, Jan. 13 at Elizabeth and Jan.
16 at Golden.
