Englewood Days celebrates community

Plans are in place and arrangements made for the Aug. 29 Englewood Days celebration.

The one-day event is a community celebration, focusing the spotlight on many of the businesses and activities that help make up Englewood.

A number of circumstances resulted in cancellation of last year’s event but planners of the grass-root organized event said it will be bigger and better than ’07.

The event includes a car show, live entertainment, a sidewalk sale, a motorcycle show and a farmer’s market. The parking lot in the 3400 block of South Acoma Street will be the site of a Spotlight on Englewood that will include booths and displays by city departments, Englewood Schools, service clubs and other organizations.

“There are more activities and many of the events are scheduled to be bigger this year,” said Doug Cohn, one of the organizers. “For example, the Spotlight on Englewood is new and the Taste of Englewood has grown from a few vendors in ’07 but this year we have 26 signed up for the event.”

The two main areas are the parking lots behind the businesses in the 3400 block of South Broadway. On the east side, the 3400 block of Lincoln Street will be blocked off for the day to provide more space for Englewood Days activities.
