Englewood Police are investigating a homicide in the 3100 block of South Platte River Drive, the department announced on Tuesday night.
The victim was identified as 32-year-old Joseph Michael Hix in a news release sent by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office on Aug. 27. Hix sustained "sharp force injuries," according to the coroner's office.
Police are seeking three males who were seen leaving the area as “persons of interest,” according to a Twitter post. The homicide occurred in the area just south of West Dartmouth Avenue.
Three males were seen riding bicycles in the area prior to the homicide, according to a news release from Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. Two wore dark clothing and short-sleeve shirts, and the third wore a white or light-colored shirt. At least one appeared to be wearing a backpack.
Police are also seeking to speak with anyone who may have picked up a male in the 1500 block of West Hampden Avenue — the area southwest of the highway interchange at South Santa Fe Drive and U.S. Highway 285 — shortly after the incident occurred, according to the release.
The homicide took place at 5:32 p.m. Aug. 25, according to the release.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers, an organization that collects information on unsolved crimes or individuals wanted by police. Those with information can remain anonymous and earn up to $2,000. The tip line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Police have not released more detailed descriptions of the suspects.
“We hope to have more info in the morning as our investigators work through the night,” Englewood Police spokesperson Chad Read, the acting commander of the Special Operations Division, said earlier in the week.
The 3100 block of South Platte River Drive was closed. The area is home to a number of warehouses, commercial sites and industrial buildings beside the South Platte River.
