Englewood Police Sgt. George Clancy wound up having to have stitches in two fingers after what began as a routine investigation turned violent.

Clancy was on patrol about 11:45 p.m. Sept. 26 when he was waived down in the parking lot at 3333 W. Bannock St.

The later investigation reported two men, one 21 and one 20, had been asked to leave the hookah bar on West Floyd Avenue for allegedly smoking marijuana. Also it was reported that the 21-year-old assaulted the security guards and ran off.

When Clancy stopped the 21-year-old, the man reportedly charged the officer, took a swing at him, grabbed his jacket and pulled him to the ground. He also reportedly bit Clancy on the arm. Clancy used his Taser on the suspect and the two officers arrived to help arrest the suspect.

Clancy and the suspect were taken to Swedish medical center for treatment. The suspect was treated and released to police. Clancy had stitches taken in two fingers on his right hand.

The 20-year-old was arrested for interference and the 21-year-old was arrested and taken to Arapahoe County Jail. He could face charges of second-degree assault.
