The Englewood Rotary Club’s May 30 event honored four new
members of the club’s Circle of Heroes plus raised funds for
continuing its projects in Bangladesh.
The club annually honors an educator, firefighter and police
officer as new inductees into the Circle of Heroes. This year,
however, they expanded the number of honorees to four — art teacher
Linda Enslow, firefighter Greg Weaver and police officers Sherri
Christensen and John Hoehler.
The festivities included a dinner featuring Bangladeshi cuisine,
the awards ceremonies and a silent auction.
Enslow was selected for her international service as she travels
to Mexico twice a year to teach children. She also works with the
community to raise money so she can take books and educational
materials to the Mexican students.
Weaver, a firefighter and paramedic, is the paramedic
coordinator for the Englewood Police SWAT team. He also adopts an
alter ego as Bunker the Fire Department Clown as he delivers
fire-safety education messages to the public and particularly to
school children.
The two police officers, Christiansen and Hoehler, were honored
for their years of service to the community and, in particular,
their effort to save a man’s life when they found him unconscious
when he was involved in a auto accident. They administered
cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived.
Englewood Rotary also raised funds for its continuing work in
Kadopasha, a small community in Bangladesh.
Other projects the Rotary has undertaken include bringing clear
water to the village, creating an irrigation pond and providing a
modest home for orphans. The club also helped build a 10-bed
hospital to serve the residents of the area.
Additionally, the Englewood Rotary Club sent refurbished laptop
computers to the girls school in the village.
But Englewood’s Rotary Club also works locally. Members mentored
young readers at Bishop Elementary School plus raised $6,000 for
scholarships, awarding Englewood High School graduates and a
Sheridan High School graduate.
