The city’s annual Santa-arrival and tree-lighting celebration, Englewood Shines, will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 6 in front of the Englewood Civic Center, 1000 Englewood Parkway.

This is the seventh year for the free holiday kickoff celebration. In keeping with tradition, Santa will let the reindeer rest and he and the elves will arrive in Englewood by light rail about 4 p.m. Dec. 6. Santa and the elves will greet the children and they will hand out a gift to every boy and girl at the event.

This year, the St. Louis School choir will provide entertainment for the gathering and Mile High Coffee will hand out free hot chocolate.

When it is dark, Santa and city officials will lead the countdown to the second when they throw the switch, illuminating almost 16,000 lights on the ornament-laded 30-foot tall Christmas tree in front of the civic center .

The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display launched from the roof of the Englewood Civic Center.
