Fire damages garage and car port

Posted

Englewood Fire Department got a report about 4 p.m. Dec. 5 of a possible fire in either a house or a garage in the 4300 block of South Elati St.

Firefighters arrived and found flames and smoke coming from the garage that was located behind the house. There were two Englewood fire engines, a ladder truck and two rescue units plus a fire truck and ambulance from Sheridan on the scene.

The firefighters made sure the fire was limited to the garage and crews had the fire out and there area checked for hot spots in about 45 minutes.

However, there was concern about power lines in the garage area so Englewood police blocked off the alley behind the house until a crew from Xcel Energy arrived to check it out and give the all -clear to reopen the alley.

The fire damage was limited to the garage and car port. Estimated damage to the garage, car port and contents was estimated at about $70,000.
