Handbell choirs from area churches prepare for concert

Posted

Handbell choirs from seven local churches, numbering about 80 ringers, will come together May 8 to rehearse all day with Littleton Bell Choir Festival clinician Michael Kastner — and then present a joyful concert at 4:30 p.m. at South Suburban Christian Church, 7255 S. Broadway, Littleton.

Some selections on the program will feature the choirs en masse, while others will highlight individual groups.

Kastner has worked with handbells for more than 40 years: composing, ringing, conducting and leading workshops nationally and internationally. He publishes music, supplies handbells and has a day job as an integrated circuit designer. He has composed and arranged music for solo, duet, small ensemble and up to full choir, seven octave works.

The participating choirs include: The Gloria Dei Ringers, Ascension Lutheran Church; Grace Note Bells, Grace Presbyterian Church; Jubilate Ringers, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; Chancel Ringers, Littleton United Methodist Church; Glory Bells, St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church; Kapella Bell Choir, South Suburban Christian Church; Campana, St. James Presbyterian Church.

A free will offering will be collected to benefit God’s Garden, a ministry that supports orphaned children in Ngundu, Zimbabwe, where more than 500 children have lost their parents to AIDS. It tries to meet immediate needs, including food and farming assistance, school fees, clothes and medicines.
