Jack Kail is a three-sport senior at Littleton, and multisport high school athletes are rare these days.
Longer high school seasons and the pressure to specialize in one sport during the off season have helped make three-sport athletes a rarity.
Kail, however, plays football, basketball and baseball for the Lions and right now is a multipurpose performer on the gridiron
“It really depends on the time of year,” he answered when asked which sport his favorite. “I like the contact part of football. It’s fun to get out there and knock heads with somebody. And, I like to run. Each sport complements the other. They kind of overlap.”
Kail, at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, is a versatile contributor to the football team. He is running back, slot back, free safety, cornerback, plays on special teams and anywhere else coach Kurt Krantz asks.
“I love it,” said Kail. “During a game, I play 90 percent of the plays and afterward I’m pretty beat. Right after a game, I’m pretty much unable do much for a while.
“I’m more of an offensive-minded football player. Playing on offense helps when you are on defense. When you are on offense and you are running and see a hole or something, then you go on defense, you know where that hole is going to be.”
