In response to the June 23 article “Drag show protesters, counterprotesters eye future events”:
What’s “normal” in America right now, Ms. Overbeck, are intolerant and self-righteous characters who think they know what’s best for everyone, who often contend that there is such a thing as a “traditional family.” What, exactly, is a “traditional family”? God-ahering white, heterosexual parents, and white, heterosexual kids?
We have reached a point when being different is feared, loathed and rejected.
Ms. Overbeck, we’re all different. Unique. I don’t have a family — and your values are no better than mine.
A local high school told a respected faculty member to change his lifestyle or leave but it continues to lure students with prattle like this: “We welcome spiritual questions and seek everyday to engage our faith and our culture with curiosity, integrity, and courage.”
“Just don’t be who you are around here,” should be appended.
Likewise, “Don’t listen to Tschaikovsky, Copland or Barber. Don’t look at da Vinci, Michelangelo or Kahlo. And don’t read Whitman, Wilde or Woolf.
“Or cheer for Rapinoe, Bird or Beane.”
Thankfully, the Herald interviewed Ro Murdock too, who said, “I want to make (the protesters) know it’s not welcome here and their message is not acceptable.”
Einstein said, “It may be possible to fight intolerence, stupidity, and fanaticism separately, but when they come together there is no hope.”
