Champion’s story plausible
The letter from Susan Thornton published in the Jan. 21 issue deserves some response. She was appalled that the Champions only saw extremely polite demonstrators at the Capitol on Jan. 6 and did not observe violence and destruction. The Champions were part of the 95+% of the protesters who were not breaking into the Capitol to destroy and steal, but instead were peaceful. Unless he had a TV or other media device at hand, how was he supposed to observe what the violent mob was doing? Unless one was intermixed with what I believe were Antifa types who were bent on destruction, how could one see what they were doing?
Our Colorado Congressional representatives were inside the Capitol and it is understandable that they were fearful. And as Ms. Thornton implies, the entire world saw violent, destructive, and dangerous mobs overwhelming the police. But if one was a part of the thousands and thousands who were not violent and destructive, but were peaceful, and were not close to the violent mob, I can easily understand Mr. Champion’s perspective as he saw it at the time. I, for one, thank him for his accurate observations and applaud him for being a commendable representative of our community on that tragic day.
