Gardner follows predictable path

Senator Cory Gardner’s recent statement that confirmation hearings should go forth now (some 40 days before the presidential election) to fill the SCOTUS vacancy created by Justice Ginsburg’s death, citing “constitutional authority,” directly contradicts his 2016 statement on the same issue. Then he declared that “our next election is too soon and the stakes are too high” (nine months before the presidential election) to hold hearings for the SCOTUS vacancy created by Justice Scalia’s death.

To some this may seem like the height of hypocrisy. Whereas a hypocrite fails to follow one’s own expressed moral rules and principles, I don’t see Gardner, on the whole, fitting that description

Perhaps on the surface he looks like one. But there is no constitutional compass guiding Gardner here. Deep down he is always true to his White Patriarchy Must Retain Power (at all costs) compass whose North Star is the McConnell/Trump dyad. Although he’ll never publicly say that because that would put that power at risk.

If you start with that premise, you can predict what he’ll do. All of his actions follow that credo. His statements just try to cover it up.
