Police records show a March 1 fatal beating is the fourth homicide investigation in the 3500 block of South Bannock Street since 1994.

Leonard G. Ross, 41, has been arrested in the beating. He was taken to Arapahoe County Jail and bond has been set at $50,000.

The list of homicides in the neighborhood includes the 2004 beating death of Stacy Roberts, who lived in the apartment building at 3525 S. Bannock St. Last year, Thomas Eric Espinoza was convicted of her murder.

The current investigation began March 1, when police officers and the fire rescue unit were called to 3544 S. Bannock involving reports of a man with a head injury.

Paramedics found a 35-year-old victim who had been badly beaten. He was rushed to Swedish Medical Center but died of his injuries early in the evening of March 2.

The investigation pointed to Ross as a suspect. Police arrested him about 10 p.m. March 2.

Police indicate Ross has lived in Englewood on and off for several years and that he has a long criminal history.

Reports indicate the victim, whose name police are not releasing, had been in the neighborhood earlier in the evening, then went to a seek an acquaintance who lived nearby.

During the police investigation, officers found the victim was involved in a fight with Ross.
