Painter Lisa Calzavara’s “Illuminated Plant” was the 2008 Best
of Show winner in the annual Own An Original exhibit, sponsored by
the Littleton Fine Arts Committee. That win brought her an
invitation for a one-woman show. Her “Listening to the Light
Series” will be exhibited from July 17 through Sept. 13 at the
Littleton Museum, 6021 S. Gallup St., Littleton. “Imagine yourself
walking into a dimly lit room. There is a partially-curtained
window with the light streaming through. Your eyes only have a
moment to adjust, but in that moment, you see shapes and shadows…”
The artist says that by listening, she could feel the essence of
the environment, capture a moment. Calzavara has been a
self-employed artist since 1993, exhibiting her work in juried
shows and exhibits and galleries. Her training in multiple media
including oils, acrylics and watercolor, as well as encaustics and
portraits, was at Arapahoe Community College. She works from her
large collection of photographs shot in historic locations and she
views the resulting painting “like a still life, that will invite
people in.” In 2007, she won first place in the Kaleidoscope show
at ACC and she is represented by Rejuvanest Gallery in Highland

“Venice on the Creek” is open for boat rides on Cherry Creek, 5

Firehouse Quilts’ 4th Annual Quilt Show will be held July 17 (12
p.m. to 6 p.m.) and 18 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at Cherry Hills
Community Church, 3900 E. Grace Ave., Highlands Ranch, exhibiting
about 100 quilts and a group of vendors’ booths. New quilt racks
will show the entries beautifully, according to Dusty Darrah of
Highlands Ranch. The fundraiser plus area donations allow the
organization to supply snuggle quilts to fire departments
throughout the state for children who lose homes to fire. The group
also makes quilts for battered women’s shelters and the Denver
