Pirates sixth-graders advance to Carnation Bowl

Posted

The Englewood Youth Sports Association sixth-grade football team snagged the brass ring this season as it qualified to play in the Carnation Bowl on Nov. 14.

The EYSA team, coached by Steve Moore, will play in the sixth-grade division championship against the team from south Jefferson County. The kickoff is scheduled at 2 p.m. and the game will be played in Englewood High School Stadium.

The Carnation Bowl is a long-standing league playoff tradition and the culmination of the football season for the youth teams involved. The site moves from stadium to stadium and rather than a single game, the Carnation Bowl is a series of several age-group youth football championship games.

This year, Moore and his assistants guided the Pirates to a 7-1 regular season record plus the team won the playoff game to advance the the Nov. 14 game.

The achievement is a milestone for the team and the league as the sixth-graders are the second team in EYSA history to make it to the Carnation Bowl game. The eighth-grade team did it about three years ago.
