Suspect arrested in beating death

Englewood police have arrested as a suspect in the March 1 beating death of a 35-year-old man whose name has not been released.

Leonard G. Ross, 41, was taken to Arapahoe County jail and could face charges of second-degree murder. Bond has been set at $50,000.

The victim was rushed to Swedish Medical Center but, despite doctor’s efforts, the man died of his injuries the evening of March 2.

Police found the man when they went to the 3500 block of South Bannock Street to check out a report of a severe head injury.

Reports indicate the victim, an Englewood man, had been in the neighborhood earlier in the evening and went to a seek an acquaintance who lived nearby.

Officers launched the investigation and it was found the victim was involved in a fight with Ross at 3544 S. Bannock St.

The police secured the location as a crime scene and continued the investigation March 2.

When the victim died, police located and arrested Ross. Police indicate Ross, who has lived in Englewood on and off for several years, has a lengthy criminal record.
